Iranian ships fire missiles near American Navy's USS John C. Stennis : Jewish Media

Iranian Revolutionary Guard ships fired rockets in waters patrolled by the USS John C. Stennis and an Iranian drone was spotted flying near the American aircraft carrier strike group, Ynet News reported.

No damage was caused and no casualties were reported.
The missiles were fired at a distance from the American ships. Iranian sailors were sighted taking photographs and video of the vessels, according to Radio Farda.

The Iranian vessels were carrying out a naval exercise called "Great Prophet 12" near the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian exercise is meant to continue until Saturday evening.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has threatened it might close the Straits, risking the stability of the global oil market. One third of the world's oil supply is shipped through the Straits of Hormuz.

The John C. Stennis is the first American aircraft carrier that has entered the Persian Gulf since Trump's withdrawal from the 2016 Iran nuclear deal earlier in the year.
